On October 21st, 2023, the Bali community came together and raised an incredible Rp 162,446,000, paving the way to grant 15 Education Scholarships for Children in Bali through Ragam Foundation. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for making this possible! 🙏
The Ragam Foundation is on a mission that truly inspires! They're all about making a lasting, positive difference in society by setting up sustainable support systems within communities. Their programs work hand in hand, creating a continuous cycle of change that leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved.
Our 3rd annual Charity 3 on 3 Basketball tournament, proudly presented by Indosole, PNNY, and Canggu Community Basketball, set an ambitious goal of 162 million Rupiah,
aiming to take education and community support to new heights!
The funds have been successfully transferred to the Ragam Foundation, initiating the scholarship process for the children.
Here's a transparent breakdown of all the funds we gathered and contributed:
We're committed to keeping everyone updated on their progress. Our goal is to sustain this program, ensuring these students not only complete university but also flourish in successful careers. We aim to expand this initiative to assist more children and families in need, both in Bali and beyond.
**Great news! We've Initiated a Bonus Program Upon Achieving Beyond Our Goal!
It's set in Yeh Embang Kauh, Mendoyo, Jembrana Regency, Bali, spread across two schools, each hosting about 40 students. Teaming up with Yayasan Giri Amertha Santhi, we've sorted the location and gathered necessary supplies.
We’ve covered payments for two English teachers who'll come in once a week. It's just 300k per month for each teacher, totaling 600k for both, which sums up to 7.2 million for the entire year.
Now, we're looking for support to sustain the Ragam Foundation Education Scholarship program in the long term.
Show your support by donating here: https://gofund.me/9438b0a8
For every purchase of Indosole sandals this week – 10% of those sales will go towards Ragam Foundation's Educational Scholarship program.
Don't miss out on next year’s event! Reach out to join in the fun and make a difference!
BIG THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
]]>That is Indonesian for 'Happy Independence Day'. Today, we celebrate Indonesia's 78th year of independence, and we at Indosole have a special bond with this remarkable country.
Indonesia holds a significant place for us as it's where the idea of recycling tires for sandals was born, where we produce all our sandals, and where most of our Indosole team comes from. Our name, "Indo-sole," pays homage to this beautiful nation.
Indonesia is a captivating archipelago in Southeast Asia, comprising over 17,000 islands and boasting incredible diversity, with 700+ living languages spoken. While Indonesian serves as the official language, numerous regional, ethnic, and indigenous languages thrive throughout the country.
This cultural richness is further reflected in Indonesia's various religions, ethnic groups, and indigenous tribes, totaling over 1,300. The country embraces its motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," meaning "Unity in Diversity."
Indonesia's uniqueness extends to its wildlife, including the Komodo Dragon, Orangutan, and Hornbill, along with other captivating species like the Javanese Rhino and Sumatran Elephant, although the Balinese Tiger is sadly extinct. The country's flora and fauna will leave you awestruck.
Indosole takes immense pride in being born here and contributing to Indonesia's well-being. We work towards removing old tires from the streets, raising awareness about pollution, promoting ocean and forest health, and collaborating with local artists and brands to share inspiring stories.
Indonesia, you are a land of wonders, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be part of your journey. Thank you for inspiring us every day, and once again, selamat hari merdeka! Happy Independence Day!

Our Bali-based crew recently visited Nusa Penida for SeaTrees' coral restoration program, led by Vincent Chalias of Ocean Gardener. Vincent, an experienced coral growth specialist and underwater photojournalist, guided us on an extensive tour, both on land and underwater.
Through our partnership, the project employs 28 local fishermen to restore damaged reef areas caused by tourist activities. These fishermen have witnessed the decline of coral colonies, fish populations, and even the loss of certain species.
During our dives with Vincent, we witnessed a striking contrast between lifeless, rubble-covered reef sections and vibrant, colorful areas teeming with marine life.
Coral reefs play a crucial role in providing sustenance, shelter, and coastal protection for millions of people. Restoring coral reefs will create habitats for over 500 fish species, many of which face extinction, and generate job opportunities for the local fishermen, benefiting their families and communities.
The project crew showcased warm Indonesian hospitality, embracing a friendly and passionate approach to their work. Their smiles and light-hearted jokes added to the enjoyable atmosphere shared with both each other and the assisting tourists.
The project adheres to an organic, plastic-free approach. Local residents utilize cotton ropes and wooden stakes to suspend coral fragments from the seafloor, allowing them to grow and attach in various directions.
To celebrate our successful coral planting and resilience against strong currents, the locals organized an exciting barbecue party on our final night. The crew's skilled spearfisher provided enough fish to feed everyone, complementing the rice, vegetables, and spicy curry prepared by the team. We contributed to the festivities with a case of beer.
As we departed Nusa Penida the next morning, we carried a mix of accomplishment and a slight headache, along with the firm intention to return. We formed new friendships, gained valuable knowledge, and felt gratified by our contribution to coral reef restoration.

As a company, Indosole is always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint and create a more sustainable future. So, this year, we decided to have some fun and team up with some amazing partners to make a difference in a creative way!
We've partnered with the talented artist, Liina Klauss, to organize a beach clean-up and art-making event. We're going to be collecting all sorts of trash from the beach, and then using our creativity to turn it into beautiful art pieces! With this art we want to raise awareness, we believe that recycling can be fun, and we're excited to show you how.
And that's not all! We're also teaming up with our friends at Sungai Watch, a non-profit organization dedicated to cleaning up rivers and recycling all trash collected. By working together, we can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in our oceans and keep our environment healthy and thriving.
At Indosole, we believe that even small actions can make a big difference. So, whether you're rocking a pair of our sandals made from recycled tires, participating in a beach clean-up, or simply recycling your waste, you're contributing to a more sustainable future.
So, let's have some fun and make a difference this Earth Day! Join us in our efforts to protect the planet and create a more sustainable future for all. Together, we can make a positive impact and show our love for Mother Earth!

Bali is a beautiful paradise, known for its stunning beaches, lush jungles, and vibrant culture. Unfortunately, this paradise is being threatened by plastic pollution. In recent years, Bali has become one of the world’s most polluted tourist destinations. It's estimated that up to 12 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into our oceans each year and much of it ends up in Bali.
To address this issue, our friends at One Island One Voice and Bye Bye Plastic Bags are hosting the biggest clean-up in Bali’s history. The Bali Clean-Up Day, which takes place on February 19th, is a day dedicated to cleaning up the island’s beaches, rivers, and other areas. It’s an opportunity to come together and make a real difference and to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution.
On the day of the event, over 20 thousand volunteers will gather at over 160 designated locations around the island to fight against plastic pollution. The team will also educate locals and visitors about the importance of recycling and proper waste disposal. Bye Bye Plastic Bags will be on hand to provide resources and tools to help individuals and communities reduce their plastic waste.
The Bali Clean-Up Day is an inspiring example of how people, when united, can make a huge impact. The event has been a success and continues to grow each year. It’s an inspiring reminder that we can all make a difference if we work together.
But more than this we at Indosole want to take this opportunity to make something exciting that will inspire others to join us on the fight against trash. Which is why we have partnered up with Liina Klauss, an artist, environmentalist and a true Good Human. She has made it her life’s work to try and shed some light on what is happening on the beautiful island she now calls home.
We invite everyone to join us in making a difference. If you’re in Bali, please come out on February 19th and join us in making a difference. Even if you’re not able to join us in person, you can still participate by donating to the cause or spreading the word to your friends and family. Every little bit helps!
Much love,

At Indosole we are constantly doing our best to raise the bar in the recycled and upcycled materials game. This year, we have yet another big development which aims to inspire conscious consumers worldwide.
The fashion industry is one of the most wasteful industries in the world. According to the World Resources Institute, the fashion industry produces around 92 million tons of waste each year. Furthermore, they estimate that the fashion industry's water footprint is around 79 billion cubic meters -- equivalent to the annual water usage of 5.7 million people.
Indonesia is a wealth of resource when it comes to fashionable waste materials and supreme manufacturing. That's why we at Indosole are passionate about doing our part to reduce our environmental impact and be a part of the solution. We were fortunate to meet the team at Pable who are based in Surabaya and have a unique method of recycling textiles into thread and rebuilding it into super soft and premium materials.
We are excited to announce our partnership with Pable! Together, we have created a sandal collection where we incorporate the recycled fabric that Pable creates.
That's right, in 2023 you could be wearing a pair of sandals that went from someone's old Tshirt to your new sandals! Cleaned and sanitized of course :)
Please read more about Pable here and look forward to our new line:

Did you know that 71% of the earth is covered by water?
This is a fact that probably most people know but never really take into consideration when speaking about deforestation and replanting trees. However, believe it or not, the majority of the oxygen we breathe comes from our oceans.
Yep, 90% of all carbon in the GLOBAL carbon cycle is stored in the ocean! This is where it should be sequestered to reverse climate change.
Known as the “rainforests of the sea,” coral reefs are the largest living structures on earth and support 25% of marine life. The conservation of these ecosystems is vital to coastal protection, scientific research, medication, fishing, eco-tourism, and more.
Our Visit to SeaTrees Coral Farms in Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia:
In May, we had an opportunity to visit the SeaTrees coral gardens in Nusa Penida and connect with their team. We got to see first hand, how coral restoration works and WHY it is important.
The Indonesian coral farmers are committed to caring for the coral gardens and maintaining the growth of the much needed coral supplements as well as planting new coral seedlings. This is a full time job and requires daily diving to care for the coral and their habitats.
It was an honor to give them each a pair of Indosole sandals as a token of appreciation for all they do. So, at the end of each work day, when the flippers come off their feet, a pair of Indosole’s will slip on and take them home to their families.
Photos from Left to Right: Kyle with Coral Farmers, Boat Captain, Michael the Founder of SeaTrees with a Farmer
SeaTrees announced their first major milestone on earth day 2021 of reaching 1 Million SeaTrees planted + protected. Since then they have been on a mission to reach the next 1 million, as well as work towards their goal to support 100 blue-carbon projects in threatened coastal ecosystems by 2030, in turn becoming a global leader in developing blue carbon projects.
Here are other milestones achieved so far by SeaTrees’ efforts in Indonesia:
Now, we all have an opportunity to support SeaTrees in their efforts to keep working and fighting for our environment, we are so honored to partner with them and donate 20% of each sale towards Sea Trees and the replanting of our underwater forests.

It's the yin and yang that are the heartbeat of small businesses. The challenge is real. But so is the joy, the pure sweet joy. The building of a family. The building of a community. The building of a product or service that people enjoy and find useful. In the case of Indosole, we continue to provide both a product- a sandal, and a service - a way to help you live a more beautiful and resourceful life that we hope will bring you happiness and joy.
We have been pushing for 13 years and there is no way we could keep doing this without the community that has been so good to us. 4 years ago we built our first flagship store in Echo Beach, Canggu, on the island of Bali, and just recently we opened 2 more stores - 1 in Ubud, and 1 in Uluwatu - both on our beautiful home of Bali.
Our retail staff has been at the core of our shops - keeping our doors open through the pandemic and our ability to open 2 more stores in which we are very proud of. This Small Business Saturday we want to thank you - to our community and provide a special thanks to our retail staff who work so hard to provide a positive experience to all who visit our Indosole stores.
Lana is in charge :) gracefully and resourcefully managing our retail spaces in Bali for the last 3 years. Originally from Jakarta, Lana has been living in Bali for 9 years now. Lana enjoys going to the beach, her favorite being Padang-Padang Beach in Uluwatu. A favorite customer story is when two couples from Korea came to our flagship store in Canggu, and loved hearing about Indosole's history from her. They ended up buying 13 pairs of our sandals as a souvenir for their family and friends back home. Lana has been a rock for our team in Bali, a leader to our retail staff in Bali, and always has a smile on her face.
So we will be providing 10% off your purchase and 10% of your purchase will be going back to our staff in Bali by using the code:
The codes work both online and in-store at our shops in Echo Beach, Ubud, and Uluwatu

This is what Youthtopia is all about! A movement started by Melati Wijsen to create a platform designed to bring young changemakers together and give them the tools to make a difference. Youthtopia has roots from Melati's Middle School days when, together with her sister Isabel Wijsen, set out to ban single use plastic bags in Bali. Little did they realize this was only the start of the adventure which would lead to the creation of Youthtopia.
While on a mission to ban plastic bags in Bali Melati and Isabell found the biggest problem was a lack of education around the topic. Not only a lack of education for waste management, climate change, but also a lack of education on how to become a successful changemaker and how to create a movement. After successfully banning plastic bags, Melati decided to embark on a journey to change the root of what she found to be the biggest problem in today's world. Education.
Today’s population might consist of over 60% adults but children are 100% of the future. This is the exact mindset you need if you are looking not just to make change but to make lasting change!
Youthtopia now has a community of over 5 million people who represent 72 countries and 185 top youth leaders from around the world! They offer over 40 courses on their website around all kinds of skills and topics to learn from, everything from Public Speaking, Film Making, Permaculture to Community Building And Surviving Crises!

At Indosole, we were lucky to become a collaboration partner with Cause Artist in 2022.
We took some time to catch up with Grant Trahant, the brainchild and power behind Cause Artist! Grant is a true pioneer in sustainable culture and has been running Cause Artist for over a decade.
Cause Artist is a platform where people from all walks of life come together and share ways and ideas to become more sustainable, ethical, and more conscious as consumers. Its right up our alley at Indosole!
We wanted to get to know Grant on a deeper level and understand why he does what he does. We can’t wait to create more content with him and see where this collaboration takes us!
In a couple of sentences who are you and what do you do?
My name is Grant, I am the founder of Causeartist, a global community social entrepreneurs, builders, creators, and conscious consumers, who believe business can positively impact the world. I am also the founder of ImpactInvestor.io and ReFiJobs.com. I am also a partner at Charity Charge, the first credit card built exclusively for nonprofits.
What does “sustainable” mean to you?
To me it means putting real effort into what you are building and creating. Thinking about the entire lifecycle of your creation and it effects on both humans and the planet.
What does “ethical” mean to you?
To me, ethical means being respectful and doing things in a responsible way for humanity and the environment.
What is a good human?
In my opinion a good human is simply a person who stays humble, tries to help people when needed, and treats people with respect and honesty.
How does it feel to be one of our good humans?
That is kind for you to say, but I am still working hard everyday towards being the best human I can be.
As a person with a voice and a purpose, what’s your message to our viewers?
Your purchases matter, how you spend your money and time matters and has a ripple effect that can positively impact the world. No matter how small the impact you can have, do it, it will matter to someone, and perhaps more impactful, is that it will inspire you to be more creative and humble in your own life.

All of our products and materials are 100% sourced and made in Indonesia.
We are always looking out for new materials to get creative with, new communities to get involved with, and ways to collaborate with creatives.
We believe that being environmentally responsible, should be as chill and accessible as the way you wander the world.
Indosole is proud to be partnering with Handep for our Limited Edition Weave Collection.
What is Handep?
Handep is a social enterprise in Central Kalimantan that works to empower women and small-scale farmers through eco-fashion products. The rapid expansion of oil palm plantations, mining, and logging has caused a rampant rate of deforestation and the degradation of indigenous and traditional values, practices and land grabbing in Central Kalimantan. Handep emerged in response to this alarming condition. It aims to create a more locally-sensitive and sustainable economic development for rural communities in Indonesia, particularly Kalimantan, by providing more locally appropriate and sustainable livelihoods for rural communities through added value creation of local forest and agricultural products. In other words, economic development does not only focus on profit generation but factors in local wisdom, cultures and traditions, potentials of local natural and human resources, and ecological aspects.
How Handep Operates?
Partnering with around 100 women weavers and smallholder farmers in Central Kalimantan, Handep presents weaving products integrating fashion and tradition in haute couture ways. We initially facilitated the establishment of weaving groups in several villages in Central Kalimantan, then established long-term partnership with these groups.
These woven goods are then designed to be functional, and meet modern lifestyle to make them marketable at local and international market. At the heart of our business, we do fair trade with our partner weavers and farmers by giving fair prices for their rattan wicker crafts which are generally undervalued by middlemen. We also share 20% of our net profit to the partner weavers and farmers in the forms of cash, training programs and village infrastructure development.
Who Handep Impacts/Supports?
We started with 20 weavers (1 weaving group) in late 2018 and have now partnered with around 100 weavers and farmers in 4 villages.
Where In Indonesia?
Kalimantan is the Indonesian portion of the island of Borneo. It comprises 73% of the island's area. The non-Indonesian parts of Borneo are Brunei and East Malaysia. In Indonesia, "Kalimantan" refers to the whole island of Borneo. In 2019, the Indonesian President Joko Widodo proposed that Indonesia's capital be moved to Kalimantan.

]]>Indosole is lucky to have Ijal be part of our family and team! Ijal has been working with us for a while and is a man of many talents, a great graphic designer, a dedicated father, an inspiring artist and above all a good human!
After working together for so long we finally had the opportunity to ask him some more in depth questions about his art and himself. His answers are so interesting and really inspired us, so definitely read till the end!
Art means so much to me. It's an outlet for my creativity, and it's also a way for me to connect with and learn from others. I find solace and peace through creating art, but what makes it even more special for me is sharing these things with other people—not just seeing them by myself. For me, art is like a beautiful mysterious woman, who never grows old, and only gets more beautiful and forever demanding. haha
I believe passion is something that can only be developed. Either you are born with passion, or you create passion. Passion always starts because you tried something out.
I found my passion when I was 7 year old. I loved drawing, even my school books were always full of drawings. Those things were my passions. I never intended to make art into a career, I simply did what I did best and love doing best, it's who and what I am and will always be. I'm happy because I chose what I needed to do to be authentic. You don't have to discover passion; it doesn't exist then it’s somewhere hiding from you, you have to create it by giving time, energy and effort.
I don’t really have a good name for my style, but some people called it psychedelic pop art.
My illustration explores themes of gender, surreal and contemporary. I use bold lines to draw shapes and then fill them with distinct bright flat colors. I build my characters and perspectives to communicate specific concepts, inherent personalities and the emotions caught within that moment in time.
Good human is a good person, doing interesting things that can inspire everyone in a positive way. Simply being an honest and kind person.
It was great for me. I'm so happy to be able to share my little story with everyone. It's hard to become a good person, I have many problems in my life and I can't do that. But in fact, we don't need many actions, we just need to do what we should do. Practicing good things in our lives makes us and our surroundings happy. That's the point.

]]>Also known as sustainably_rosalie or known for her website worldchangerco.com!
Rosalie’s passion and drive towards a sustainable future has always made her someone we consider a good human, so having her join the Indosole family only seemed natural.
We decided to ask her some questions so that you guys have the opportunity to get to know her a little better and on a deeper level! We can’t wait to create more content with her and see where this collaboration takes us!
In a couple of sentences who are you and what do you do?
Hi, my name is Rosalie and the island of O'ahu is my home. I've adopted the nickname "Sustainably Rosalie'' because of my Instagram handle and the common theme of my social media and website content.
What does “sustainable” mean to you?
To me, something is sustainable if it takes the future into account so it can continue to happen. Instead of using resources with no plans to replenish them, it leaves resources the same or even better than before. Being sustainable is absolutely vital in order for us to continue to live life to the fullest on this planet.
What does “ethical” mean to you?
I believe the word "ethical" can only be used to describe a product, brand, practice, etc. that cares for the needs of people involved in it. That may sound dogmatic, but I don't mean it has to be perfect. It's simply an intention paired with action, including the well-being of others in the business plan.
What is a good human?
I would say a good human often loves others well. Whether that person is taking care of a neighbor or helping someone across the globe through their buying practices, they're sacrificing something of their own in order to love someone else.
How does it feel to be one of our good humans?
The title of a good human is worth more to me than most titles people would be striving for. The joy it gives me to be called a good human by the Indosole team brings me back to the joy I felt when I first started spreading awareness to consumers six years ago, believing if I was heard by just one person then it was an absolutely amazing day.
As a person with a voice and a purpose, what’s your message to our viewers?
I must say, there are a LOT of messages I want to spread, but over the years I have felt most called to one specific message. That message is to remember that even though most people affected by the clothes and accessories we buy are distant and disconnected from us, no amount of style, status or expression through fashion is worth harming those involved in making it.

]]>At Indosole, we have been primarily a footwear brand since day one. We started by picking up old tires on the side of the road and bringing them to a workshop and testing to see which ones could make the best sandal soles. Once we developed a handmade process, we took it to the next level by pulverizing the tires into granular and making molds. It's been an evolution of process in an effort to streamline efficiency and output.
Over the years and along the way, we have tinkered around with lots of materials that would otherwise be looked at as a useless pile of waste. By sifting through trash piles, we came to the realization that there are so many great materials out there that could still be useful. We believe that these old materials deserve another chance, another life!
This year, we launched our "Lost Sole" campaign which features recycled sneaker parts as soles on our new sandals. This new wave of old materials has given our brand a more vibrant color and appeal from the ground up. It has also opened up a whole new dimension for collaborations with other brands while having the ability to add vibrant color to otherwise dead soles.
So, by using the same process we created in recycling old tires, we now do the same with sneaker parts!
Adding home goods felt like a natural fit with our Tire Tech and now Sneaker Tech too. Our latest solution is with coasters. Coasters are basic but effective, just like sandals :) Our coasters are a symbol of what is possible in giving old materials new life, they are a symbol that virgin materials do not need to be built from the ground up for basic products - They can be reused / recycled!
If you have a brand, a non-profit, a corporate event, wedding, or just a huge house that you would like to dial our coasters into. Please hit us up for a fully customized Coaster set - Small Minimums and Quick turnarounds.
Please contact us today for a quote and we can prepare a custom coaster for your company or event!

]]>Indosole's mission is to inspire people to live a more fulfilled and conscious life with every step, and there is no one more inspiring than a father. Fathers, like mothers, are pillars in the development of a child's emotional well-being. Children look to their fathers to lay down the rules and enforce them. They also look to their fathers to provide a feeling of security, both physical and emotional. For this exact reason parents are the most important people in our society as they shape our future through their children. Every change starts with education and knowledge and passing that information down to the next generation to raise and create change makers of the future.
To all fathers (and mothers) who are raising their kids to be cautious of our environment and teaching them how to make a lasting positive change, we thank you for being the pillars of our future!
Check out last year's blog to hear what all the Indosole fathers have to say!
What is a fathers day without some good dad jokes?
What kind of sandals do frogs wear?
Open toad.
Why can't milk wear sandals?
Because they lactose!
What do you call sandals with no traction?
Slip Flops
Winners always wear sandals
After all, you shoes, you lose
Hoping all the Fathers out there have a wonderful fathers day. You deserve it!
With love,
Indosole

Pride month originally originated in celebration of gay people. As time progressed and more queer people felt empowered to come out, the movement became more and more diverse. What started as a holiday lasting only one day was soon extended to a whole month of worldwide celebrations including pride parades, parties, workshops, concerts and memorials for victims of hate crimes or HIV/AIDS with millions of participants. Pride month, as a celebration of love and acceptance, welcomes everyone willing to support the community. Whether you are cisgender and straight or the queerest color of the rainbow, everybody is appreciated. Besides embracing uniqueness and love with no boundaries Pride Month also aims to shine light on LGBTQIA+ issues like gay marriage, same sex adoption and gender rights.
This year for pride month Indosole has something special to share... Show your support and let your colors shine with our limited edition pride slides!
These were inspired by all the strong and proud members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We want our Indosole community to show our support and wear our colors proud and loud.
We hope everyone takes this month to express their love and show their support to the LGBTQIA+ community. Don't forget to show your colors off this month!
With love,
Indosole

In celebration of our oceans we thought we would start off this blog with some awareness and facts about them so we can properly appreciate all that they do for us.
Around 70% of our planet's surface is covered by enormous bodies of water. With the deepest part of it being 11,034 meters (36,201 feet) below the water's surface. According to National Geographic, if Mount Everest was placed there, the tip of the mountain would still be at least 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) below sea level. The oceans offer habitats for millions of species with only a minor amount being known to mankind. To this day it is estimated that we only discovered 5% of the oceans worldwide. The biodiversity still unidentified might be up to millions.
Considering the incredible importance of healthy oceans to every living organism on earth, World Oceans Day aims to protect at least 30% of our oceans, lands and waters by the year of 2030 (“30x30”). World Oceans Day specifically demands 30x30 because of recent studies suggesting that we will need to protect at least this amount of our planet, to secure earth‘s life supporting systems and to obtain biodiversity. Currently less than 17% of land and less than 8% of oceans is legally protected from destruction through exploitation or pollution. Oceans connect all living things, provide livelihoods for millions and are vital for life on earth. They produce at least 50% of the oxygen we are breathing and are able to store 50 times more carbon dioxide than the surrounding atmosphere. Additionally, the oceans are essential for climate regulation because they transport heat from the equator to the north and South Pole creating viable weather conditions. The world's oceans also supply humans with food, medicine, as well as jobs for more than 40 million people. Especially people from developing countries rely on the sea for their livelihoods. World Oceans Day therefore strives to keep the global movement growing to apply more pressure on the world's governments and economy to do their part in 30x30 and take it seriously. Already over 41.000 individuals and 1.100 organizations from 84 countries are committed to protect 30% of the plant.
With a seemingly never ending list of points that prove the great importance of oceans to life on earth, Indosole wants to stress the need of taking immediate actions now. Raising awareness for this topic is only one of many actions that can be taken. Participating in online events, signing petitions, educating yourself or people close to you, creating or consuming art meant to highlight the struggles we are facing can be likewise as impactful. As a certified B-Corp Indosole is committed to do our best to impact earth's sensitive balance between humans and nature positively, hence the celebration of World Oceans Day!
Let's all take a minute today to truly appreciate all that our oceans do for us.
With love,
Your Indosole Team <3

Since 2009, Indosole has prevented 150k+ waste tires from going to the landfill and given them new life as soles for our footwear. We strive to not only be pioneers of recycling in the footwear sector but also reduce and repurpose landfill waste on a global scale.
With transparency in our manufacturing process as a core driver, Indosole is continuously reworking its production process and concept to become the greenest and cleanest in the game. As a certified B Corp we are committed to the standards set forth in order to create a more ethical and open business environment.
As environmental keepers of the future and simply a dedicated team of motivated and young people, we decided it was time to evolve one step further. We are proud to introduce our newest technology "The Lost Sole Collection."
As an international hub for sneaker manufacturing, millions of pairs of shoes are being produced monthly in Indonesia. With this rapid growth, there are 100's of thousands of defects which are being thrown away.
Similar to tires, sneaker soles are made from strong and durable materials that are made so well that they will take a long time to break down. Material of this strength can take over 1,000 years to decompose!
In following our signature process of turning waste tires to footwear soles, we have developed our "Recycled Sneaker Technology." Each defective sneaker sole is pulverized into a powder and then reshaped and molded into a 60% recycled sole. The new advantage as we see it, is using more waste which otherwise sits in a landfill while also giving our footwear soles more life and COLOR.
We now offer 3 colors in Flip Flops, Slides, and Platforms which are extra comfortable and ready for any adventure that comes their way.
We are always looking to make our products better and this season we have. With the same quality, durability and attention to detail; the new and improved slides are more comfortable like never before featuring Dream Cloud Comfort.
Indosole aims to make a shift from evergreen talks into a more refreshing product. Indosole believes that with a fun approach the company is able to contribute to shaping the consumer patterns of future generations.
We hope you enjoy our latest creation and try a pair for yourself.
The Indosole Team
]]>In an hour of today we decided to do some research on how this holiday came to be and the history behind it. Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.” Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
Fun fact: Did you know? More phone calls are made on Mother’s Day than any other day of the year. These holiday chats with Mom often cause phone traffic to spike by as much as 37 percent.
The official American Mother’s Day holiday arose in the 1900s as a result of the efforts of Anna Jarvis, daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. Following her mother’s 1905 death, Anna Jarvis conceived of Mother’s Day as a way of honoring the sacrifices mothers made for their children.
By 1912 many states, towns and churches had adopted Mother’s Day as an annual holiday, and Jarvis had established the Mother’s Day International Association to help promote her cause. Her persistence paid off in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
Indosole wants to send out big love to all the mothers in the world! The contribution mothers bring to the world does not go unnoticed and we thank you for always raising change makers.
Check out our last year's blog post to get to know the mothers at indosole!

Since then World Health Day centered their campaigns on drawing attention to health related issues that concern people worldwide. Therefore, this year's focus lies on the urgent demand of the immediate shift of public attention from economical interest to health related issues connected to global warming. Likewise, WHO demands us to reimagine a world that is fair, where rich countries are not gatekeeping resources essential for living, like water, food and clean air. We need to create an economy that is focused on human well-being and give control to those affected over their health, as well as this planet's health now. According to WHO‘s estimations over 13 Million people are dying each year due to environmental causes that could have been prevented.
Since Indosole is all about repurposing already existing resources, we wanted to take the chance to raise awareness on this topic and highlight Indosoles mission. WHO made clear that with a shocking 90% of humans worldwide every single person on earth is breathing unhealthy air, which is the result of fossil fuels being burned in factories, vehicles, etc. Each year, over 1.5 Billion tires are being burned in developing countries because they are a cheap and efficient source of energy, releasing toxins into the air that have a serious negative impact on human health and on the environment. Studies found that depending on the length and intensity of exposure, risks like irritation of the skin, eyes mucous membranes or respiratory effects can occur. These fumes might also cause damage to the central nervous system, depression and cancer. Tires that are not being burned end up in landfills, where they will not decompose for thousands of years and become breeding grounds for mosquitoes contracting threatening diseases like Malaria. WHO already realized, with earth‘s temperatures rising continuously, the growing risk of mosquitoes spreading further and faster than ever before.

Ocean health has been a major topic in the conservation discussion and international spotlight for the last 20 years, and we are thankful for this attention to the ocean we love so much. Less attention has been attributed to the health of rivers and the waterways that connect the land to the ocean. Sungai Watch has been spearheading this movement since the start of the pandemic in Bali, and we couldn’t be more proud of our friends and excited about what they are doing. We said - “we are here to help”!
Fun Fact;
Make A Change World was started in 2009 - the same year as Indosole.
Sungai Watch was started by the three siblings behind Make A Change World - Kelly, Gary, and Sam Bencheghib - a dynamic trio of change makers both individually and collectively.
So how does Sungai Watch work and what do they do?
The simple answer is hours and hours of hard work whether it be cleanups or installing their now signature “Trash Barriers” in over 100 rivers and waterways in Bali. In Sungai Watch’s own words: “Sungai Watch is a community river cleanup organization that has the mission to protect our waterways, starting in Indonesia. At Sungai Watch we believe that simple Trash Barriers can serve as a way to stop the leakage of plastic pollution into our ocean. Rivers are the perfect connection point between life on land and the ocean.”
“Jaga Sungai Kita!” (Take Care of Our Rivers)
So what happens to the waste that is collected?
This is where it gets really interesting. Sungai Watch has a sorting center where all waste collected gets separated into organic and non-organic. The organic waste gets processed into compost, charcoal chips, and mulch. The non-organic waste gets separated into glass, metal, plastics, foams and...wait for it...flip flops! Yes Flip Flops comprise 5-8% of the waste Sungai Watch collects. The team has invested into cleaning and grinding machines which can process and break down this non-organic waste into secondary resources that can then be made into new products.
You can learn more about the waste management at Sungai Watch and download the “The River Plastic Report 001”
PRESS HERE
You may ask - what happens to the waste flip flops that get processed at Sungai Watch? We may just have something up our sleeve, stay tuned for more info. Additionally if you are in Indonesia and have any old flip flops of any brand feel free to drop them off or send them to us at our store location in Canggu, Bali, where we collect them to be processed at Sungai Watch.
For the next week 10% of any purchase at Indosole.com goes to help Sungai Watch in their massive cleanup effort at the Bali Mangroves and on the 100 plus rivers and waterways that are surging with trash during this strong rainy season in Bali.

Indosole would like to take a moment to wish all the incredible fathers out there across the world a happy fathers day. Not all heroes wear capes and fathers, grandfathers, father figures are those heroes. In light of fathers days we took the time to ask our indosole fathers some personal questions about fatherhood and what that means to them.

What has been your proudest moment as a Dad so far?
There are so many.. from the time they are being born, to the first time I get a look at their face, to when they smile at me. But the proudest moment so far is when I'm get back home from work, and then they run to me and shout at me "Ayah!" (Dad). Sometimes I'll bring them bunch of snacks and their face more happy then before. I'll let them to kiss me first one by one before give them snacks.
What is the hardest part of balancing your professional life while being a Dad?
For me, it was finding the balance of doing the right amount of guidance for my children. Do too little, they think you don’t care. Do too much and you spoil them and they never learn adversity.
Every child is different and I made my fair share of mistakes. But I also taught them to love and forgive. This comes in handy when they’re adults and you need love and forgiveness from them.
How has sustainability or responsible/conscious living played into your Parenting style?
I always buy clothes for my kid that almost 80% came from thrift shops. I'll try to save money and make life more sustainable is to not buy all my kids clothes new. The other thing is I teach them about environmental to clean up after meals and throw garbage in its place, because sometimes kid doesn't care about the trash. When we go to picnic, before leaving I pointed out a list of everything I need (including a trash bag). As to the picnic spot, I can spend some time looking at the pulse and identify the nearest trash can and reminds them to throw the garbage on it.
What do you wish your child to aspire to as he/she grows up?
I'll let my kid do whatever they wants and I still have to be very communicative with my kid so it doesn't get the feeling that me uninterested. I'll tell them about my intentions why I choose to give them a lot of freedom of action. As long as good for them, I will always fully support. Don’t miss out on being there for them when they needs you if you choose this parenting type. In my opinion the best parenting type is a balanced one. Not too strict but also not too relaxed.

What has been your proudest moment as a Dad so far?
I'd say the thing that has made me happiest as a Dad has been to see my daughters Anya and Mikaela really embrace and love their adopted brother James. I think it's tough for kids to accept big change and I'm proud of my girls for how they have welcomed James with open arms and hearts.
What is the hardest part of balancing your professional life while being a Dad?
The toughest thing has always been traveling a lot for work. These days there is a bit of a bonus though as my work now takes me to Los Angeles fairly often and I get to see my daughters when I'm there. Plus James loves adventures and sometimes I get to bring him along for the ride!
How has sustainability or responsible/conscious living played into your Parenting style?
Really just trying to lead by example and encourage my kids to embrace mindful practices and consumer habits. Sharing the outdoors and nature with my kids has been a big emphasis and I hope to nurture their own love of nature and sense of environmental responsibility.
What do you wish your child to aspire to as he/she grows up?
More than anything I hope that my kids are happy and grow up with a clear sense of who they are and what is important to them.

What has been your proudest moment as a Dad so far?
I’m so thankful that we are having three kids and that they are happy and healthy! Proud is not the good word, it’s more than that! Thankful that when I’m coming home and they are yelling PAPAAA!!! And when our youngest daughter Julie see my face she starts smiling directly!
What is the hardest part of balancing your professional life while being a Dad?
You want to be a good colleague and a strong chain in the company but also in my role as father and husband. It works much better if you share all pendings issues also at home so they know where I am with my mind or phone sometimes. And when I have to travel I always keep the focus on when I’m coming back and not that I’m leaving!
How has sustainability or responsible/conscious living played into your Parenting style?
We make our kids aware that plastic is not good for our nature so they are picking constantly plastic waste on the streets. And wasting food is a sin in our eyes, so if they have enough and there are still some left overs we bring it to the garden for the birds or Noony, our 6 years old rabbit!
What do you wish your child to aspire to as he/she grows up?
Take care of anyone as you care yourself! This should be the main goal in life and taking care of the planet is equal on this!

What has been your proudest moment as a Dad so far?
Bringing up our beautiful daughter in a way that she is comfortable within her own skin. She has a soft nature and hell of a lot of love to give. That always makes me smile and tells me i'm doing something right.
What is the hardest part of balancing your professional life while being a Dad?
Just the constant juggling act of work and play. My kid is everything and usually gets the nod ahead of work. She makes all aspects of life fun so it's an easy decision.
How has sustainability or responsible/conscious living played into your Parenting style?
Its definitely opened my mind up to providing the best future possible for our kids. I think it's an easy thing to say and understand without them, but once you have your own child, it quickly becomes an absolute necessity.
What do you wish your child to aspire to as he/she grows up?
I have no agenda or aspirations for her. I just want her to be the happiest person she can be. Comfortable within her own skin and have the feeling of love and support no matter what her decisions are. The worlds her oyster and I can't wait to see what that involves.

What has been your proudest moment as a Dad so far?
When I have made my children safe and protected, and also seen a smile on their face.
What is the hardest part of balancing your professional life while being a Dad?
It’s stressful being responsible for shopping at the early traditional market to buy some food for breakfast and lunch, driving up kids to the school and picking them back home after work. leaving work with lots of unfinished business in mind, people trying to talk when they can see me heading out. on a busy hour finding a kid getting sick and the mom has to care for other kids.
How has sustainability or responsible/conscious living played into your Parenting style?
Planning your day before it happens, and making sure that you are prepared, can really cut down on your stress levels. Children have non-negotiable priorities.
What do you wish your child to aspire to as he/she grows up?
Being healthy and happy, having the skill and confidence to explore and venture out into the world to play and learn to achieve success in their life.
We want to say a big thank you to all the fathers around the world who are raising change makers and to the fathers of indosole who are always driving indosole to be it’s best. Being a parent is one of the most important roles anyone can have and we really appreciate all
