Rain, Rubber and Roadside Eats: Solo in Phuket and Koh Yao Yai…

Hi, my name is Holly and I am the marketing manager at Indosole. A few months ago I went on a solo trip to Thailand, starting in Phuket and then heading over to Koh Yao Yai. I packed pretty light and only took two pairs of shoes, my Easy Living Platforms in Guava and Matcha, clipped onto my backpack with a carabiner.

Most of my evenings in Phuket were spent at the night markets, wandering around the stalls and eating way too much street food. It's such a nice thing to do on your own because you can go at your own pace and just try whatever looks good. I literally spend 5 hours at the market one evening, wandering the rows of food stalls, my favourite eats were the Takoyaki, iced Thai tea and mango sticky rice of course and the fried pork with Thai chilli sauce!

During the day I loved exploring the Old Town. The Sino-Portuguese buildings are so pretty, with their pastel colours, arched windows and shutters, and there's street art down nearly every little lane. I also spent ages in the cool streetwear and interior shops, and there were so many beautiful pieces I wished I could fit in my bag. I will definitely have to book another trip soon and take an actual suitcase with me! My favourite shops were: April Pool Day, Mitr and The Only Market. I could also definitely see an Indosole store suiting the vibe there - watch this space!

Koh Yao Yai was a lot quieter and slower, with little fishing villages, limestone cliffs out in the water and a main road through the middle of the island that was still being built. I rented a bike and spent most of my days riding around the island on my own, stopping at empty beaches and taking random roads just to see where they went.

I was there in rainy season (which I thought had finished - hence not packing a rain coat!!), so the weather could change really quickly. One afternoon I got caught in a storm on the bike and ran into a 7-Eleven to wait it out, and then the power went out! We were all just standing around in the half dark eating toasties and drinking Thai tea while the road outside turned into a river. It's honestly one of my favourite memories from the trip.

I wore my Indosoles the whole time, from the night markets and the Old Town to riding around the island in the rain. They were comfy enough to support me walking the night markets for hours on end, and dried out quickly too after the rain storms. I also made packing light easy too, as I wore one pair and clipped one pair onto my bag!

If you're planning a solo trip of your own, I'd definitely recommend packing light and bringing a pair you don't have to think about. You can find the Easy Living Platforms in Guava, Matcha and more colours online and in store! Rainy season and night market approved!
