THE WHOLE STORY

Where are you from?

I was born and raised on the island of Kauai on the North shore in a town called Hanalei. I have traveled around the world and can honestly say, there is not a more beautiful place than Kauai. There is a special feeling that I get when I am home. It’s a feeling I have never felt anywhere else. When I travel to places I continue to try to feel what I feel when I am at home and there truly is no place like home! My childhood was a fairy tale. I would wake up with huge lush green mountains surrounding me and the ocean so close I could smell it. I would simply put on my bikini, grab my surfboard and run out the door. Growing up on Kauai there is little judgement and zero material things. It is truly humbling and it makes me really appreciate good people and beautiful places. I have always been a competitive surfer. My first competition was when I was 6 years old and after that I was hooked! I competed regularly and always did pretty good. Unfortunately I realized that if you want to be a professional surfer it is very difficult to do school while pursuing surfing. It’s one or the other. I have always been very interested in getting my education and my family really pushed me to do just that. I am not a very aggressive person and never genuinely loved the competition side of surfing. After graduating from high school I was faced with a decision, to either go on and pursue my career as a professional surfer or to get my education. I decided to get my education and studied  4 years at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and graduated in Spring 2012 at the age of 21 with my Bachelors degree in Communications!

What do you do? What’s the best way to describe what you do?

After graduating from college, I traveled around and tried to figure out what it was that I really wanted to do for my career. My sister Jackie and I are really close and growing up we always talked about starting a bikini line one day. We thought it made perfect sense since we are so immersed in the surf culture and grew up living in a bikini, we figured we would start a swimwear line of our own! Our dreams came on April 1st 2014 as we launched our swim wear company called Cami and Jax. We both consider ourselves athletes so we have shaped some of our designs around the athletic surfer girl type. Cami and Jax is the perfect brand to not just look hot and stylish in while tanning on the beach but our suits can actually stay on while in the big surf! It is the perfect combo! We strive to set out to make suits that every body type and size can fit. We want to make a brand that allows everyone to be apart of team Cami and Jax. One of our goals is to make our customers feel like they are apart of a team and family never leaving anyone behind or forgotten.

Favorite place to travel to?

My favorite place to travel to is Bali. It reminds me of home. There is a sense of “Aloha” down in Indonesia where everyone is smiling and warm hearted. The pace is slow and no one is in a huge hurry. The people are very understanding and interested in what you have to say. The Balinese people always give you the help that you need making sure that everything is okay and you are comfortable. The surf is amazing too! The power of the surf reminds me of the power that Hawaii has. It scares me and I like it!

How have you impacted the community/environment or thoughts on how to. eg: What’s the raddest thing you have ever done for the environment or community?

Through Cami and Jax, we really want to give back to the community as much as possible. Thats why we have come up with a great idea. We recently held a trunk show in Malibu California where we gave a percentage of our earnings to a child in the community who needed help. After the fact, It made us feel so good that we have decided to do this at every town that we have a trunk show. We will be having trunk shows in beach towns across the US and at each stop we will be giving a percentage of sales to a certain cause and/or person in need. We want to give back as much as possible and this is our start!

What are your plans in the next couple years/ near future?

My plans for the next couple years are to make my brand the best it can possible be. To make my customers as happy with my product as possible and make them feel incredible while wearing my suits. To meet as many inspiring, creative people as possible  To travel and love and appreciate everything that surrounds me. To live in the moment as much as possible and to slow myself down and just be.
