If you're anything like the Indosole crew, you've traveled to a fair number of far-flung places in search of new experiences―exchanging smiles and waves (and high-fives!) with children and adults in remote communities along the way. Unfortunately, many of the people in those communities suffer from preventable causes... but they don't have to. All they need is a little advice and expertise.

This is why Indosole has partnered with SurfAid, a non-profit humanitarian organization that works to improve the health, well being, and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. We felt this partnership a natural fit as we share the common goal of contributing to the country of Indonesia and its people.

This past weekend (September 9-10) SurfAid held the SurfAid Cup - Malibu 2016, a surfing competition benefiting their Mother and Child Health Programs in Indonesia. We felt honored to be listed as a sponsor and support SurfAid’s efforts to raise funds for their campaign.

The contest featured surfers of all ages who traveled from far and wide to surf the clean and dreamy Malibu waves. With a relay race format, all surfers got a chance to shine and grab some waves for their team. Guest appearances from surf legends Shane Dorian, Rob Machado, and Joel Tudor got the crowd and their fellow surfers pumped up, and really made the day.

This weekend $120,000 in funds were raised for the future health development on the islands of Nias and Sumba in Indonesia. In Nias alone, SurfAid has helped to reduce maternal deaths from 8 annually to zero in just 28 months. During the same time frame, deaths of children under the age of 5 were reduced from 22 to 5.

The Malibu surf contest will be followed up with a second contest in Manly, Australia in late September. Please come out if you are in that neck of the woods!

Nowhere near Manly? Show your support by purchasing the Men's Tan Burlap sandal or Women's Ikhanna Cobalt Trails sandal on Indosole.com, where $10 of your purchase will go to SurfAidWe're offering the $65 special this month only.

You'll also get a custom SurfAid tote bag compliments of Custom Tote Co. (powered by Indosole). These are the same bags we made for the Malibu Cup, and by rocking them we hope you'll be able to get a taste of the fundraising festivities.
