Recently, our co-founder Kai went to run with Sungai Watch on their 57-day run from Bali to Jakarta. Kai popped in on days 18 and 19, and ran from Bangli to Sidoarjo one day for 28 kilometers, and then from Sidoarjo into Surabaya, another 15 kilometers. A total of 43 kilometers in two days. Here’s his story:

What a journey and mission to witness. We met with the Wakil Bupati, the Vice Regent of Sidoarjo, and were welcomed into their government offices to talk and discuss waste management. We visited a school with an amazing group of excited school children, where we talked about recycling, reducing, and reusing; it was so cute. We also stopped along the way at a very dirty river to clean up the waste from this river. All in this journey of running to raise awareness for waste management issues and plastic pollution in Indonesia.

We're very proud to partner with Sungai Watch, and we really are excited for the rest of their journey as they continue to get more and more momentum and energy. As they talk to more heads of villages, provinces and the full island of Java, they grow national awareness for this need. One of the biggest things that Indonesia needs is a push for a waste management system, and these guys are the ones leading this charge into the government.

Currently they need our help to reach their goal of $1 million USD raised for the push towards plastic alleviation and waste management in Indonesia.
Here is an update from Gary Bencheghib, co-founder of Sungai Watch:
Sam, Kelly and I just crossed 630km of our 1,260km run across Indonesia. 30 days of brutal, beautiful road behind us.
We’re running to fund massive river cleanups with @sungaiwatch. We’ve raised $95K — but the goal is $1 Million, and we can’t get there alone.
So we’re launching the #RunForRivers challenge and we need your help to make it go viral.
It’s simple:
