I have returned to California and real life but bearing lots of gifts and some rad life experiences! After spending about 3 months over in Bali and having had some of the most insane opportunities designing, sourcing, photographing and exploring I was ready to "take a step back" from it all. Living in a foreign country is such an exhilarating experience and everything is always moving so fast and theres no real comfort zone so it gets exhausting, especially when you are working and trying to create a kick ass collection! I am so happy to be home, getting back into routines and taking full advantage of everything Northern California has to offer, the list is endless and sometimes I wonder why I ever leave this place! But then you do and you realize the world is full of other awesome places, like Bali. My heart is torn between San Francisco and Bali, they really are some of the most inspiring and unique places I have lived. I haven't even gotten to the people I have met along the way, but you know who you are.. stay rad! Excited to share our new threads with you all soon, stay tuned!

Indosole and 5 Gyres UniteTogether we are raising funds for the North Atlantic Expedition June 10-16th, 2013This expedition, seven days/six nights will depart from Bermuda and sail aboard the 72 foot Sea Dragon, ending in Newport RI. A guest crew will join the 5 Gyres team in collecting data from the ocean surface on plastic density and type, trawling 40-50 nautical miles around the clock as we head Northwestward to the final destination in Newport. Oooh eh Indosole in Canada you say?....That’s right, thanks to our partners at HSC Collective in Montreal we have opened some doors in the north country. HSC has hand selected an assortment of surf and lifestyle boutiques in various provinces and we are really excited about this expansion.

These last few weeks have been dedicated to dialing in the samples for the girls clothing, bags and accessories.  It is a tedious process that you feel like you take one step forward then one step back constantly... I'm finding out that what I draw out and envision in my head is only makes sense to me and that I wish I knew Indonesian. But once the design is nailed, I break it down to Kai (It helps to hear your ideas out loud, plus he translates it to the Tailors) then I have to factor in the what fabric to use and how that design will fit a complete stranger, then you can find me changing the design or being completely over it... I have already worked with 3 different Tailors, found a new one today and sent out some more samples, so hopefully by the end of this week we will have a set tailor and just keep making samples till we get it right! I had no idea it would be this difficult, but that feeling of when you receive a physical sample of something you have been staring at on paper or working up in your head is pretty awesome! Getting eager to have finished products especially since the clock is ticking, only one more month here...

BREAKS Magazine--City Meets Sea--Indosole's Kai Stober Paul was recently invited to sit down with the BREAKS Magazine crew and tell a bit about his special relationship with the country of Indonesia. Kai and his family have had a positive impact on the country and it's people through education and give-back programs. Kai's parents were teachers at the Jakarta International School for 20+ years. While educating Indonesia's local and ex-pat youth, they also provided a unique and shaping experience for Kai, with real-life education on the streets of Jakarta. Not many young red-head mulleted Americans can claim this kind of childhood experience. Kai's time in Indonesia has made him a very valuable asset to the Indosole team and we are thankful for his ability to shake and move with the locals in Bali and throughout Indonesia.Read the article HERE

We like to do things a little different. I mean we make shoes from tires, we like to be original. So when it came time to start gathering a squad of ambassadors to represent us, our brand, and our mission, we wanted to do something that was powerful and for lack of a better word....RAD. What we all agreed on is calling our team of ambassadors to represent us....“Good Humans”. People that are passionate about what they do, make a difference for human kind, the earth, their community or in the way people think. They inspire us to be better just by being a good human. We also decided to switch it up a bit and include humans of all walks of life. Yes we are originally founded in the world of surf and there will be surfers on our team, but there will also be community leaders, outdoor and environmental enthusiasts, Yoga gurus, a rad kid, musicians, business owners, an organization or two, and a couple people we can't even call yet. Pain McShlonkey at Squaw Valley USA, CaliforniaMarch 29-30th, 2013We feel very fortunate to have been involved with the annual Shane McConkey Foundation's  annual "Pain McShlonkey" ski race and weekend of fund raising, networking, and mayhem. The competitors and crowd featured ski/snowboard industry professionals and local legends. 2 nights of costume themed parties to commemorate skier legend - Shane McConkey's love for 80's style neon leggings and one pieced jumpers, provided a blurry mish mash of awesome outfits and energy.Big thanks to all who came and supported the event and:High Fives Foundation and Big Truck BrandSee ya next year!
