Postcard from the Amazon

Dear Indosole, I am writing to you from the Amazon. Its been a crazy trip to get here, Bali-Kuala-Paris-Madrid-Rio-Saopaolo-Belem and finally Macapa where the journey continues by boat. It took me almost 4 days of traveling by plane, bus, taxi, and boat to get to the opening of the amazon river where the Famous Pororoca tidal bore starts. Apart from all the traveling, the trip is exactly how i like them: lost in the middle of nowhere, with a hammock as a bed, surrounded by the craziest wildlife, and going to surf the most original type of wave. We surfed every day but unfortunately the wave didn't come as big as we hoped. Luckily the Ocean Nomads team and I managed to film every spectacular moment of this crazy adventure. On the 3rd day of surfing i got ripped out of the boat by the leash and board of another surfer that lost balance and fell off while passing the wave. The impact was huge i thought i was dead and then that the fins cut my head really bad, but by luck i just got bruised up pretty bad. Thinking i survived a traumatic incident a few minutes later i found out that Ugo the co-host of the show got crushed by a jet ski and was badly injured. So we rushed back to the boat to find him almost paralyzed thinking he broke his back or hip. He left instantly to the nearest hospital that sent him back to Macapa to get X-rays. I stayed back with the film crew for the last day of surf because there was no boats to bring us back with him. With no news hoping for the best we met him back at the hotel in Macapa where we found him better but still limping. I guess all this is part of the adventure. I am on my way to Rio now with a 2m swell coming this week-end so i will send you another post card soon….Stay stoked. Aloha, Teiki

Welcome to Balifornia

We are proud to introduce our 2014 line "Welcome to Balifornia." Balifornia fuses the best parts of East and West; the insatiable Californian spirit of wanderlust combined with the rich tradition and vibrant colors of Bali, Indonesia. With a five year reputation of re-purposing waste tires into soles for footwear, Indosole has taken resourceful fashion to the next level. Our designers have teamed up with Indonesian batik specialists and worked overtime to incorporate this one-of-a-kind fabric into our shoes and apparel for Spring/Summer 2014. The process of creating batik is truly organic, and involves a two-stage dipping process. It leaves the cotton/canvas material with a 1970’s tie-dye look, which is then faded in natural sunlight and overlaid with hot wax. Finally, the wax is peeled away, leaving a beautiful double-layered design. We know you'll love our new line as much as we do. Thanks for your love and support! Dream Big - Smile Wide

Made Mariasa Karbit (nickname “Karbit”), is a young Bali-Born man with a lot of talent and a permanent and contagious smile. The Indosole crew has sponsored Karbit for surfing since 2010. He is currently attending Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar, and is studying economics and entrepeneurism. Through employment, Indosole pays Karbit’s full tuition, and he’s learning real world economics and business practices as well as gaining "tools of the trade" knowledge for the surf industry. Karbit assists us with inventory control of our stock at the house/warehouse and is learning how to take stock reports, and turn that into a product order form that we need to keep the shops running smoothly. Karbit also helps to manage our surf team in Bali. He helped recruit 10 young, up and comers and gathered all of their information for sizing and product preference. In addition, he also assists with promotions at surf competitions and makes sure we are on banners, hands out stickers, etc. He will assist in our ramp up and execution at the upcoming Keramas surf contest, and is helping with getting Indosole branded trash cans placed at Echo and Brawa beaches. Karbit has a great attitude and dreams big! We at Indosole are proud to support his future, education, and are thankful to have him as a part of our team...

#kaipaulontour Journal #2 - The Process

kaipaulontour Journal #2 - The Process Coming back to Bali there were a couple missions to complete. #1 surf. #2 Surf. #3 Party...haha. No seriously, the top of the list was to make developments in the product and the processes that go into making the product. We have a huge spring planned both in product launches and in delivering the most amount of shoes and sandals to retail in the history of Indosole. Production needs to be efficient and on time. There lies my ulitimate mission: deliver. Ok, pressure is on right? Yes, but what I have found is that our foundation has been set so solidly here in Bali with the people we are working with and the suppliers we have established, that it has been easy to make little tweaks here and there to enable a growth period for Indosole and really rev up and fine tune the Indosole cycle. It has been a pleasure to get to know and work with our staff here in Bali, special shout outs to Nana and Pak Eddy! Yes, surfing happens, and very thankful that it does, but the real joy and sense of accomplishment has been in continuing to progress this thing we affectionately call Indosole. - KP

#kaipaulontour Journal #1

#kaipaulontour Journal #1 It has been too long since I was last in Bali, and it's nice to be back on the isle of the gods. Waking up early and seeing the sun shine over the water, boats, rice fields, banana and palm trees, and the panjars that are up on the streets due to the recent holiday celebrations have been both inspiring and comforting. This is the land where I was born and have spent 15 years of my life. This is the land that formed a young California red-headed, freckled kid and took me in as one of their own and continues to show me love. Bali is the land that supports Indosole, and in turn we do all that we can to show our love and support back to Bali. I will be here for some time growing and developing our product. I will keep you updated on travels, everyday life, surf, the ways of Bali, and the processes of Indosole. Stay tuned... Terimah Kasih Banyak, dan sampai jumpa lagi.
